Audrey “Aud” A. Stephans (fka Cecka-Millard), age 70, passed away peacefully on Sunday, December 12th at 10:40am, at Agrace Hospice Care in Janesville. She was preceded in death by her father Arthur L. Cecka, her mother Dorothy E. Anderson (fka Wittmann-Cecka) and her brother Michael Cecka. Audrey was born in Hazel Green, WI and would always speak of memories from her childhood in Mineral Point, where she grew up.
Audrey was a person who kept a hectic schedule throughout her life. Between raising children, working either with Dan, her husband, in his business and eventually in her own careers, plus volunteering for various organizations, you would always find her doing something. Even when she wasn’t as mobile as she wanted, she found ways to keep her mind and hands active. She taught her children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews and was starting with the great-grandchildren, the neat things that nature has to offer and her appreciation for the simple things (cooking, watching the wildlife and creating craft projects out of every-day items). If you asked her, Audrey had no problem letting you know her opinion on any particular topic and happily provided her wisdom, words of encouragement and sometimes that special look you didn’t want to receive.
Anyone who knew Audrey well, knew that she detested, hated and one could say abhorred the cold with a passion unlike anything one could imagine. When she was able, she spent the winters first in Utah, then Arizona, and finally, Mississippi. When she could not make the trip alone, Dan retired and went with her to Florida, then Mississippi. She loved exploring with Dan the various botanical and sculpture gardens the US had to offer.
Audrey is survived by her devoted husband Daniel J. Stephans, her daughter CeCelia (Bill) Bos, son Daniel (Emily) Stephans II, grandchildren Ronald Millard (special friend Kara), Jordan (Dylan) George, Gabrielle Stephans, and great grandchildren Cayden, AubriAna, Mila and Vincent. She is also survived by her siblings Nancy Cecka, Mary (Mark) Polzin, Larry Cecka, Patricia (Dan) Otter and Kevin (Sangin) Anderson along with multiple nieces and nephews all of whom she loved dearly. She will be fondly remembered by her first husband Fillmore “Jack” (Tracy) Millard and special friends Lori (Amos) Fry.
At her request there will be no funeral. She will be cremated and because of her abhorrence to the cold, she requested that we wait until warm weather to hold a Celebration of Life in her honor. In the meantime, please feel free to send your condolences c/o CeCelia Bos, PO Box 357, Greenville WI 54942
